1924 Notre Dame Football Team National Champs Post Rose Bowl Celebration Original TYPE 1 photo PSA/DNA LOA

Led by legendary head coach Knute Rockne, the University of Notre Dame's 1924 squad featured the fabled Four Horsemen backfield of Harry Stuhldreher, Don Miller, Jim Crowley and Elmer Layden, who led their team to an undefeated 10-0 season and a national championship. Representing that significant Fighting Irish season, which was capped off by an impressive Rose Bowl victory over Stanford.  The 1925 Rose Bowl was Notre Dame's last bowl appearance until the 1969 season

Joe Bach was one of Notre Dame's famed "seven mules" and later the head coach for the NFL's Pittsburgh Pirates (1935-36) and Pittsburgh Steelers (1952-53). At Notre Dame, he was a defensive lineman on the 1924 National Title team (the first Irish team to win a championship), and had a pivotal role in Notre Dame's first Rose Bowl trip.

This 8x10 original TYPE 1 photo derives originally from Joe Bach’s collection.  After the Fighting Irish’s trip to Pasadena to play in the Rose Bowl, they had a long trip back to Indiana (they made several stops as they were being hailed as hero’s across the country.  One of their stops was in Cheyenne, Wyoming where they dressed as gangster cowboys.

This 6-5/8” x 10.5” original TYPE 1 photo was given to the players pictured in the photograph.  We’ve only seen one other copy of this photo which is a part of the Notre Dame archives.

The Notre Dame photo has the same inscription (handwritten on the photo).  You can see it here.
