The 1936 Fordham Rams' Offense scored 128 over 8 games, while the Defense held every opponent to no more than 7 points per game, and shut out three teams, including No.3 ranked Pittsburgh. The Rams went 5-0-2 before losing, what Lombardi called; "The most devastating loss of my life," when they lost 7-6 to NYU, and with it, the hopes of playing in the Rose Bowl. The Rams' were No. 3 going into their final game, but ended up No. 15 in the Final AP National Ranking.
The Seven Blocks of Granite was a nickname given to the Fordham University football team's offensive line under head coach "Sleepy" Jim Crowley and line coach Frank Leahy. The most famous Seven Blocks of Granite were: Leo Paquin, Johnny Druze, Alex Wojciechowicz, Ed Franco, Al Babartsky, Natty Pierce, and Vince Lombardi.
Offered is a government postcard postmarked from November 19, 1936 signed by 14 members of this historic team including:
- Vince Lombardi – (D 1970) Pro FB HOF – the man who re-wrote the Green Bay Packers record books. This is the earliest signature we’ve seen on Lombardi!
- Al Babartsky – (D 2002) 7 Blocks of Granite who went on to play in the NFL for 6 seasons with the Chicago Cardinals and the Chicago Bears
- Jim Lawlor – (D) Lombardi’s roommate at Fordham and also a tackle on the team
- Frank Mautte – (D 2003) Captain on the team.
- Phil Marion – (D 1973) starting guard opposite of Lombardi until injury sidelined him
- Leo Paquin – (D 1993) one of the famed members of the 7 Blocks of Granite.
- Nat Pierce – (D 1975) 7 Blocks of Granite
- Alex Wojciechowicz – (D 1992) member of both the College & Pro FB HOF’s
