Dizzy Dean & Gabby Hartnett 1938 Original TYPE 1 Photo Chicago Cubs

Offered is a 7” x 9” TYPE 1 photo with the original paper caption on the back from Wide World Photos from August 20, 1938 (stamped the 21st) in their game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

After a serious injury incurred during the 1937 All-Star game, Dean was never the same pitcher.  He was sent to the Chicago Cubs and actually helped them win the 1938 National League pennant.  The 1938 season was a nail biter as the Cubs largely trailed behind the Pirates and the manager, Rowland was fired.  Cubs star player, Gabby Hartnett took over as the skipper.

Dean had some great games against the Pirates, but in this game, the Cubs lost mostly due to the players backing Dean up on the field.

Dean is sitting in the dugout with a peeved look on his face while Hartnett seems to be yelling something as he walks by.

Killer shot!
