Leland Stanford "Larry" MacPhail Sr. (D. 1975) was an American lawyer and an executive and innovator in Major League Baseball (MLB). He served as an executive with several professional baseball teams, including the Cincinnati Reds, Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Yankees. MacPhail's sons and grandsons were also sports executives. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1978. Offered is a signed envelope postmarked 1971.
Joe McCarthy (D. 1978) is most renowned for his leadership of the "Bronx Bombers" teams of the New York Yankees from 1931 to 1946. As the first manager to win pennants with both National and American League teams, he won nine league titles overall and seven World Series championships – a record tied only by Casey Stengel. McCarthy was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1957. Offered is a signed album page in fountain pen.
Casey Stengel (D. 1975) is probably the most quoted Major League player or Manager in Baseball history next to one his own players, Yogi Berra. Stengel won eight World Series as a player and manager. He’s just as important to Yankees history as Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, and Mickey Mantle. Offered is cut down signed index card that measures 3” x 2”
Great break!
