Wallace Wally Butts College Football HOF signed Georgia Bulldogs Document D.1973

Wallace Wally Butts- (D. 1973) as an American football player and coach and college athletics administrator. He served as the head coach at the University of Georgia from 1939 to 1960, compiling a record of 140–86–9. His Georgia Bulldogs football teams won two national championships (1942, 1946) and four Southeastern Conference titles (1942, 1946, 1948, 1959). Butts was also the athletic director at Georgia from 1939 to 1963. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 1997.

Offered is an 11x14 Bulldog Hall of Heroes Honors Certificate from the University of Georgia dated March 1, 1957.  This was awarded to George Poschner who was an end at the U of Georgia and participated in the 1941 Orange Bowl and the 1942 Rose Bowl.  He was an All-American in 1942 and drafted by the Detroit Lions in 1943. The most celebrated event in Poschner's collegiate career came when he caught two fourth-quarter passes from Sinkwich in a 21-10 win over Alabama in 1942

Poschner served in the United States Army in World War II, where he received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Distinguished Service Cross. On January 8, 1945, Poschner participated as a lieutenant in the Battle of the Bulge. While advancing into enemy territory, he was severely injured by machine-gun fire and did not receive medical treatment until two days later. Poschner lost both legs and several fingers as a result of his injuries. A New York Times report on Poschner's injuries observed, "His brilliant pass receiving added much to the reputation of All-America Frank Sinkwich, also of Youngstown, as a forward passer"

In addition to this prestigious award being signed by College Football Hall of Famer, Wally Butts; this has been signed by Dan Magill (Deceased), who was an American Sports Information Director, Head Tennis Coach, and Georgia Bulldog Club secretary for the University of Georgia, known throughout the state of Georgia and the South for his unparalleled contributions to the Georgia Bulldog athletic program. Magill was also an accomplished tennis player. Additionally, there are 3 other signatures on this document.
