1949 World Series Dodgers ROY CAMPANELLA vs Yankees PHIL RIZZUTO Original TYPE I Photo

RIZZUTO RUNDOWN

Spectacular sequence action in 4th Series game in New York. Phil Rizzuto supplied many of the thrills at the 4th World Series game in Ebbets Field, won by the N.Y. Yankees, 6-4. His belly slide into third in the first inning and then his being run down by Dodger Roy Campanella, a moment later, were something for INP's sequence camera to report. Here, after Yogi Berra had hit to Miksis, Phil is involved in the rundown after Miksis had tossed to catcher Campanella who is shown running up the basepath and forcing Rizzuto out of play. TO top his quick thinking play on Rizzuto, Campanella has already whirled to throw to second base where teammate Robinson completed this most unusual double play, by putting out Tom Henrich. Thus a potential Yankee rally was nipped. Lookers-on in this diamond drama are Yankee coach Frank Crosetti, Umpire Passarella, and Brooklynites Miksis and Reese.
