1962 The Return of Frank Gifford New York Giants Original TYPE I Photo Published in Sport
If Mickey Mantle was the darling of the baseball world of New York; Frank Gifford ran the football side of things. Offered is an original photo stamped November 1962 used in Sport Magazine and taken by NY photographer, Daniel R. Rubin. Rubin was the official NY Giants photographer in the 1960’s and was also well known for his photography in the automotive world; shooting for Alfa Romeo and Jaguar.
Gifford lost 18 months in the prime of his career when he was injured by a hard tackle. During a 1960 game against the Philadelphia Eagles, he was knocked out by Chuck Bednarik on a passing play, suffering a severe head injury that led him to retire from football in 1961. Photo shows Giff in the locker room shedding his uniform with football pants hanging from the rafters in his return to football in 1962
Offered is an original 8” x 10” TYPE I photograph taken by photographer, Daniel Rubin (his stamp on back). Printed on period Agfa Brovira photograph paper. This photo appeared in the November 1962 issue of SPORT Magazine.
