1973 World Series New York Mets Oakland A's Game 6 Ticket Stub Rollie Fingers SV

The Oakland A’s claimed a 3–1 victory over the New York Mets in Game 6, powered by a gritty performance from Catfish Hunter, who was pitching on short rest. Hunter outdueled Mets ace Tom Seaver, with help from Reggie Jackson’s clutch hitting.

Jackson got Oakland on the board early, doubling home Joe Rudi in the first inning, then doubling again in the third to drive in Sal Bando, giving the A’s a 2–0 lead.

In the eighth, New York finally broke through. Ken Boswell singled in a run, ending Hunter's outing and putting the tying run on base. But reliever Darold Knowles stepped up, striking out Rusty Staub on just three pitches to preserve the lead.

Oakland responded in the bottom of the inning. Jackson singled, advanced to third on an error by center fielder Don Hahn, and scored on Jesús Alou’s sacrifice fly, adding a crucial insurance run.

Rollie Fingers closed it out in the ninth to earn the save and send the series to a decisive Game 7.
