Don Liddle (D. 2000) was a left-handed pitcher, played in MLB from 1953 to 1956 for teams including the New York Giants. He is best remembered for his pivotal role in the 1954 World Series. In Game 1, Liddle pitched to Vic Wertz, whose massive hit led to Willie Mays' legendary catch, “The Catch.” He also won the decisive Game 4, securing the championship for the Giants. Over his career, Liddle amassed a 28–18 win-loss record, a 3.75 ERA, and 198 strikeouts.
Dusty Rhodes (D. 2009) was an outfielder and pinch-hitter, played in MLB from 1952 to 1959, mainly with the New York Giants. He is renowned for his clutch performances in the 1954 World Series, where he hit a walk-off homer in Game 1 and contributed crucial hits in Games 2 and 3, finishing with a .667 batting average for the series. Known as a power-hitting lefty, Rhodes achieved a career .253 batting average, 54 home runs, and 207 RBIs. His timely hits during the Giants’ championship run cemented his legacy as one of baseball’s most impactful World Series contributors.
