Eddie LeBaron (1930–2015) was a trailblazing figure in the history of American football, known for his exceptional skills as a quarterback despite his diminutive stature. Standing only 5'7" tall and weighing 168 pounds, LeBaron earned the nickname "The Littlest General" for his leadership on and off the field. His career spanned both the collegiate and professional levels, where he excelled as a player, a coach, and later as an executive.
He played college football under Amos Alonzo Stagg at University of the Pacific and was drafted by the Washington Redskins in 1950 but delayed his NFL debut due to military service. He joined the team in 1952, quickly making an impact as a dual-threat quarterback known for his mobility and accurate passing. LeBaron played for the Redskins until 1959, with a two-year hiatus during which he played in the Canadian Football League for the Calgary Stampeders. He was also the 1952 NFL Rookie of the Year and a 4 X Pro Bowl selction.
In 1960, LeBaron became the first starting quarterback for the newly established Dallas Cowboys, where he served as both a player and an unofficial mentor to younger teammates. He retired from professional football in 1963, having been selected for the Pro Bowl four times during his career.
