George Herman Babe Ruth 1948 Funeral Invitation Ticket LOA

NL President, Ford Frick was quoted as saying, “Ruth was so thin it was unbelievable,” referring to the body of the Great Bambino after his visit two days prior to his (Ruth’s) passing at age 53.

Even in death, the Babe remained larger than life.  Our nation’s mourners were so in shock, that it took two days for every mourner to file past his casket as he lay in state at Yankee Stadium. The Babe’s body was then moved to St. Patrick's Cathedral in Manhattan, where an attendee of the funeral presented this card / invitation / ticket to gain admission for his funeral on August 19, 1948 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Measures 3.25” x 4.25”

This was originally part of Pittsburgh Pirates legendary broadcaster, Rosey Rowswell’s personal scrapbook.

LOA Rowswell family.

PLEASE NOTE - Photo of the people lined up for the funeral is for SHOW ONLY and NOT included (it was a stock image from the internet).  People were lined up for blocks to get one last glimpse of the Babe.
