June 21, 1953 New York Yankees vs. Tigers Ticket Stub Mickey Mantle 425 Foot HR

If you were going to a New York Yankees doubleheader in 1953, it was almost assured that you'd see some fireworks in terms of the long ball, and that's exactly what you got at this June 21st twin bill split with the Tigers. Mantle, Martin and Berra all went deep that day and Whitey Ford picked up career win #17 against future HOF’er – Hal Newhauser (who took the L) in game 1.

The highlight was Mantle blasting a 425 foot home Run which at that time was one of the longest Home Runs ever hit to right field in Yankee Stadium.  Mantle also went 3 for 4 in game 1 with a triple and 2 RBIs.  This would be career home run #47 and #11 for the season.  The second game; the Tigers exacted revenge beating the Yankees 10-3 with Billy Hoeft taking the W and Garver getting the save over Tom Gorman of the Yankees.  The Yankees ran through a lot of reserves in the second game.
