1923 Photograph of Wally Pipp from the New York Yankees as it was reported that an ankle injury may keep the star from playing in the World Series. It would be an injury to Pipp a few years later that would pave the way for young Lou Gehrig to start his monster career and give rise to one of the most important stories in baseball history! A rare 6.5” x 8.5” TYPE 1 image we have never seen before and one of the only ones showing Pipp at bat we have ever handled. Issued by Underwood and Underwood and stamped on the back with a full paper caption.
