On August 2, 1954, the Brooklyn Dodgers hosted the Milwaukee Braves at Ebbets Field in a 13 Inning Thriller (in front of 6524 fans) with a 2-1 Brooklyn victory that snapped the Braves 10 game winning streak and Pete Woey’s first MLB win. The Dodgers left 20 men on base, tying a 23 year old record in the National League for a 13 inning game. The last time that had happened was in 1931, when the Pirates accomplished this feat against the Phillies.
Jackie Robinson went 2 for 4 with his 16th double of the year. Rookie Hank Aaron went 1 for 6, but when he connected, he hit a triple. Pee Wee Reese of the Dodgers and Billy Bruton of the Braves had stolen bases.
