1961 Chicago Packers vs Warriors NBA basketball program – Wilt Chamberlain 50 Points

For the 1961-62 season, The NBA returned to Chicago after 11 years after the Stags who made it to the first championship series folded. The new team known as the Packers, who are the first expansion team to join the NBA in 12 years were not very good as they finished in last place with an awful 18-62 record. However, first round draft pick Walt Bellamay became an instant star winning the Rookie of the Year while finishing 2nd to Wilt Chamberlain with an impressive 31.6 ppg, and finishing 3rd in rebounds to Chamberlain and Bill Russell with a 19.0 per game.

We offer this very rare Chicago Packers (one year NBA team) vs. Philadelphia NBA basketball program from December 16, 1961. The program is scored, all pages intact, features a composite photo of the Packers, a picture and bio page of the owner David Trager and head coach HOF’er – Jim Pollard lots of articles and stats. Tape on the spine, but spine is intact. No missing or cutout pages. All pages intact. Otherwise, condition is fine.

The Philadelphia Warriors would beat the Chicago Packers by a score of 112-110.  Wilt Chamberlain would lead the Warriors with 50 points in a nailbiter, going head to head against Chicago’s Walt Bellamy who had 45 for Chicago.   For the Warriors, Paul Arizin had 25 points while Tom Gola helped support the team with 13.  Andy Johnson shot 14 with Slick Leonard adding  11 in this losing effort. Only 3380 fans were in the stands that night.

Fantastic Historic Program! (note – we watermarked the team photo of the Packers in our scan to prevent duplication – the actual photo in the program is not watermarked).
