1967 Meyer Lansky Head of Murder Inc. Mafia Mobster with His Lawyer Original TYPE II Photo

Meyer Lansky was known as the "Mob's Accountant", was an American organized crime figure of Polish birth who, along with his associate Charles "Lucky" Luciano, was instrumental in the development of the National Crime Syndicate in the United States.

Associated with the Jewish mob, Lansky developed a gambling empire that stretched around the world. He was said to own points (percentages) in casinos in Las Vegas, Cuba, The Bahamas, and London. Although a member of the Jewish mob, Lansky undoubtedly had strong influence with the Italian-American Mafia and played a large role in the consolidation of the criminal underworld. The full extent of this role has been the subject of some debate, as Lansky himself denied many of the accusations against him

Fearing prosecution for various offenses, in 1970 Lansky attempted to retire and immigrate to Israel, aiming to use the country’s Law of the Return, which grants citizenship to anyone of Jewish heritage. But after two years, his attempt for permanent residency was rejected due to his criminal record and he was deported to the United States.

Offered is an 8” x 10” (approximate size) original TYPE II photo of Lansky walking through Miami on June 2, 1967 with his attorney E. David Rosen From the Miami Herald Archives.  The is was used in the June 3, 1967 issued of the Miami Herald.

PSA designates a TYPE II photo as a photograph, developed from the original negative, during the period (more than approximately two years after the picture was taken).
