In front of a crowd of 10,884 fans at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn, the Dodgers set a MLB record of scoring 13 runs in the 8th inning to finish the game 3 games behind the eventual NL champs, New York Giants.  (note most runs in a single inning at the time was 18 runs in an 1883 game by the Cubs – this was the most runs in an 8th of a National League game and tied the MLB record with the 1925 Philadelphia Athletics)

Carl Erskine would get the win with Clem Labine getting credit for the save.  Karl Drews of the Reds was on the losing end.

Jackie Robinson was 1 for 4, but had a 3 run RBI, Gil Hodges had a stellar day by going 4 for 6 with a triple.
