Ernie Banks signed with the Chicago Cubs in late 1953, making his major league debut on September 17, 1953 at the young age of 22 and played 10 games at Wrigley Field. He was the Cubs' first black player; he became one of several former Negro league players who joined MLB teams without playing in the minor leagues.
George Brace, who was the protégé of photographer, George Burke just happened to be at the ballpark shooting pictures for the Chicago Cubs (as he was the official team photographer). This is the image he captured of Banks on his first day in the Major Leagues.
Offered is a matte finish original TYPE I photograph that measures 4” x 6” in size and has been signed and personalized by Banks during his rookie year. Original George Brace stamp on the back.
