Lou Boudreau (1917–2001) was a trailblazing shortstop and manager, best known for his extraordinary career with the Cleveland Indians. A skilled hitter and defensive standout, Boudreau played 15 MLB seasons (1938–1952), earning an MVP award in 1948, the same year he managed the Indians to their last World Series title. Renowned for his strategic mind, he famously implemented the "Boudreau Shift" to counter powerful hitters like Ted Williams. A seven-time All-Star, Boudreau ended his career with a .295 batting average and over 1,700 hits. Inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1970, he remains celebrated as one of baseball’s most innovative and impactful leaders.
