Willie Hernández (deceased) was a Puerto Rican relief pitcher who played in Major League Baseball from 1977 to 1989. He spent time with the Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies, and Detroit Tigers, but his most memorable season came in 1984. As the Tigers' closer, he recorded 32 saves with a 1.92 ERA, helping Detroit win the World Series. That year, he became only the third player in MLB history to win the Cy Young Award, MVP Award, and a championship in the same season. Over his career, Hernández tallied 70 wins, 147 saves, and a 3.38 ERA.
