1906 Carlisle Indians Football Team Original Real Photo Postcard – Historical!!!!

The 1906 Carlisle Indians football team, representing the Carlisle Indian Industrial School, had one of their most memorable seasons under legendary coach Glenn "Pop" Warner (his first season). The team finished with a record of 9-2 and was considered one of the strongest teams in the country that year.

Key stars of the team included:

  • Albert Exendine - A talented end who would later become a successful coach
  • Frank Mount Pleasant - A versatile quarterback and exceptional athlete
  • Charles Dillon - A powerful fullback
  • Emil Hauser - A standout tackle

Their most notable victories included wins over Pennsylvania (24-6) and Minnesota (17-0).  They beat Albright College (82-0) and Susquehanna University (48-0).  The two games they loss were to Penn State (4-0) and Harvard 5-0).  Otherwise, they dominated their opponents.

The team was known for their innovative play-calling and execution of the forward pass, which had just been legalized that season. Under Warner's guidance, Carlisle became one of the first teams to effectively utilize this new offensive weapon.

Several of the players on this team ended up playing professional football in one form or another.

Offered is an original REAL PHOTO POSTCARD of the 1906 Carlisle Indians football team (we’ve included a screenshot of the team from author, John S. Steckbeck’s 1951 book, Fabulous Redmen – The Carlisle Indians and their Famous Football Teams.

The book is the definitive history of the Carlisle football program.  We’ll include a copy of the book (rough shape) as a bonus.  The postcard has some handwriting on the back and is in EX condition.

This is the only example that we’ve ever seen.  Historical early College Football piece.  Dating one year before the arrival of Jim Thorpe on the Carlisle Indian School’s campus.
