"The 1939 Cincinnati Reds won the National League Pennant with a 97-57 record which placed them in the World Series, where they were swept by the New York Yankees in 4 straight games. Not to be undeterred, they would come back for the 1940 Major League season and repeat as NL Champs besting their 1939 regular season record with 100 wins and 53 losses, winning the pennant by 12 games over the Brooklyn Dodgers. They would face the mighty Detroit Tigers in the World Series and winning it all in 7 games.
Offered is a gorgeous menu from spring training of 1940 with photos of the team’s entire roster that also included the Reds Manager, Bill McKechnie as well as Del Baker (Tigers Manager) as well as the ownership and front office titans, Warren Giles, Powel Crosely, and a young Gabe Paul. This heavy cardboard stock menu measures 8-7/8” x 11-3/8"" is EX condition and signed on the back page of the menu in pencil by Bucky Walters, George Kelly, Grantland Rice, and one unknown.
The highlight autograph on the program has been signed in jet black steel tipped pen by Hall of Fame umpire, Bill Klem (D. 1951). He was posthumously inducted into Cooperstown in 1953. Seldom offered signature on a super duper rare piece.
