First Year BAA 1946-47 Two Sided Colorful Season Ticket Schedule Advertisement Brochure – Chicago Stags
The Chicago Stags were founded in 1946 and folded in 1950. Despite their short history, they were able to acquire the draft rights to a young Bob Cousy in a trade with the Tri-Cities Blackhawks (although he never played a game for them). When the Stags folded, a dispersal draft was held to divide up their players around the league. Bob Cousy was drafted by the Boston Celtics. Despite their short existence in the BAA and NBA, the Chicago Stags were rather successful in league play, making their way to the BAA finals in 1947 only to lose to the Philadelphia Warriors. In Chicago's final season, the league consistently continued its growth, forming a third division and a total of 17 teams. The Stags finished tied for third with the Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons (and behind the Lakers and Royals), 11 games back, with a 40–28 record, and again lost to the Lakers in the opening round. It marked the end of the NBA in Chicago until the Chicago Packers were enfranchised in 1961.
Offered is an 8.5 x 11 inch two sided schedule/season ticket advertisement that was to be sent out to potential season ticket holders in their first year in the BAA (Basketball Association of America). One side features photos of the entire squad that included HOF coach Harold G. Olsen and 1940’s star player, Max Zaslofsky. It also features their schedule and announces their first game ever to be played at Madison Square Garden against the NY Knicks. The other side has a write-up about the stars on every other team in the BAA which features the Knicks, Warriors, Detroit Falcons, Washington Capitols, Cleveland, Providence, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, and Toronto. It has the prices of the individual tickets and season ticket plans. The most expensive season ticket plan was $78.75 which was a lot of money in those days. In EX-NR condition with two folds, as this was supposed to be mailed out but was never sent.
1951 College All-Americans vs Harlem Globetrotters Two Sided Advertisement – Ticket Form
The Globetrotters would play the College All Stars/All Americans from 1949 until 1961. The Globies with their seasoned veterans would often give their collegiate opponents fits.
Offered is an 8.5” x 11” (EX plus condition with two folds for mailing) 2-sided advertisement and ticket order form for this game played on April 7, 1951 in Chicago which the All-Americans would win 63-55. The All-Americans were coached by 3 HOFers: Clair Bee, Everett Case, and Ray Meyer. The All-Americans featured several future NBA players, including: Don Sunderlage, Zeke Sinicola, Ernie Barrett, and Jack Kiley. This features photos of Jim Slaughter of South Carolina (who would play for the Bullets) and Zeke Sinicola (Ft. Wayne Pistons). The advertising sheet lists the prices of tickets.
On the reverse, there is an ad for an upcoming prize fight at Chicago Stadium and a photo of Globetrotters star and HOFer Goose Tatum.
