One of the most recognizable images ever taken shows a rag tag group of marines as they raise an American Flag over Mount Suribachi on the island of Iwo Jima during WWII (1945). Taken by an Associated Press photographer named Joe Rosenthal, the seemingly innocuous image would change the face of the war for Americans back home and stand as a symbol of American courage to this day.
This oversized 10” x 13.5” photograph we believe was printed in the 1950’s and has editorial markings and stampings on the back of the photo. There is a small half inch tear at the bottom of the photo that has been repaired with tape. There has also been a tear (repaired with tape on the verso) at the top of the photo that measures a little over 4.”
Original prints have sold for thousands of dollars over the years. Here is a chance to own a very inexpensive vintage print. All it needs is a nice frame and it can hang on your wall.
