1948-49 Satchel Paige Rookie-Era Giving an Interview in the Dugout Original TYPE I photo PSA/DNA

Paige was only the sixth Black ballplayer to join the MLB's ranks after Jackie Robinson (and the oldest rookie ever at age 42). The affable man of mystery here clutches his glove and assumes the Thinker's pose, while a Woody Allen-looking journalist in plaid takes notes. As has been mentioned in scholarly baseball writing, there's a distinct irony to Paige making tremendous strides in Civil Rights while also wearing the name and logo of a team rife with racial issues. Indeed, Cleveland's outmoded mascot Chief Wahoo is acutely visible.

Offered is this original photo (measures 8x10 inches in size) that has crystal clear registration and has been encapsulated as TYPE I Authentic by PSA/DNA
