The Dallas Texans played in the National Football League for one season, 1952, with a record of 1–11. They were one of the worst teams in NFL history on and off the field. This 'Dallas' team was initially based in Dallas and then Hershey, Pennsylvania and Akron, Ohio during its single season.
They had previously been the New York Yanks of the NFL, but due to financial instability, the team was sold and moved to Dallas. Because the team was so horrid, they failed to find any fan support and ended up folding. The remains of the team were purchased by Carroll Rosenbloom who moved the remaining players to Baltimore (to become the Baltimore Colts).
Remarkably, the team did have some pretty decent players which included: HOF’ers Art Donovan, Gino Marchetti, and Les Richter. Other players of note included: Jack Adkisson who would become better known as professional wrestler, Fritz Von Erich, Weldon Humble, George Taliaferro, Frank Triucka, Buddy Young, Barney Poole, and Joe Campanella. They were coached by College FB HOF coach, Jim Phelan.
Ripley’s of Dallas has made dress shirts and western shirts for men since 1920. In 1952, the Dallas Texans commissioned these Western style shirts to be produced for the coaches and players (and possibly the front office) to wear for photo opportunities. This snap button western/cowboy style shirt does not have the size tag, but measures approximately a men’s size large.
