1956 Sal Maglie Signed AUTO Brooklyn Dodgers Payroll Check PSA/DNA

Salvatore Maglie (D. 1992) was an American Major League Baseball pitcher and later, a scout and a pitching coach. He played from 1945 to 1958 for the New York Giants, Cleveland Indians, Brooklyn Dodgers, New York Yankees, and St. Louis Cardinals. Maglie was known as "Sal the Barber", because he gave close shaves—that is, pitched inside to hitters. A gentle personality off the field went unnoticed during games, his foreboding physical appearance contributing to his menacing presence on a pitcher's mound. He was the last of 14 players to play for the Giants, Dodgers and Yankees at a time when all three teams were in New York City. During a 10-year major league baseball career, Maglie compiled 119 wins, 862 strikeouts, and a 3.15 earned run average.

Offered is a super rare Brooklyn Dodgers payroll check issued to 2 X All-Star pitcher, Sal Maglie. The check, which bears the club’s name and logo printed along the top border, is dated August 14, 1956 (the Dodgers played the NY Giants that day at Ebbets Field), and has been made out to Maglie in the amount of $1927.75. Maglie has endorsed the check in blue ink on the reverse. Dodgers executive “Wm. J. Gibson” has signed the check on the front. This is one of less than a handful of Brooklyn Dodgers payroll checks we have ever seen and the only Maglie example, making it an exceptionally rare and significant Brooklyn Dodgers item.  Maglie would pitch his first and only career no-hitter only a month later on September 25, 1956.
