Carolina Cougars was a basketball franchise in the former American Basketball Association that existed from late 1969 through 1974. The Cougars were originally a charter member of the ABA as the Houston Mavericks in 1967. The Mavericks moved to North Carolina in late 1969 after two unsuccessful seasons in Houston at the Sam Houston Coliseum.
The 1969-70 team featured Bones McKinney, a grizzled NBA veteran as head coach with Bill Bunting, Cal Fowler, Steve Kramer, Gene Littles, Larry Miller, Doug Moe, Rich Niemann, George Peeples, and many other young/rookie players on the roster. They finished 42-42 for 3rd in the ABA Eastern division.
The yearbook is loaded with bios, action shots, and portraits of the players.
The team used some of these yearbooks as actual game programs as there is an unscored scorecard inside the program against the Indiana Pacers which featured Freddie Lewis, Bob Neotlicky, Mel Daniels, and Roger Brown.
Program has tight binding, no missing pages, and would rate an overall EX condition because of some wear on the cover (slight), Interior pages are NR MT. This was their first year in the league after moving from Houston.
