This was the invention of eccentric owner (Oakland A’s) Charles O. Finley. The experimental Official Orange Baseball was met with positive reviews when initially unveiled in 1970. Finley intended for these baseballs to be used during night games to help the batters see the ball. Unfortunately, this whacky invention was eventually shelved.
Beautiful high grade example of one of these original balls!
