1979-85 Bill Cartwright New York Knicks NBA Basketball Signed AUTO Rookie Contract

Bill Cartwright is a former professional basketball player who had a successful career in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and later became an NBA coach.

Player Career:

1.      College: Bill Cartwright played college basketball at the University of San Francisco, where he had an illustrious career as a center. He was part of the Dons team that won the NCAA championship in 1977.

2.      NBA Player: Cartwright was selected as the third overall pick in the first round of the 1979 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks. He played 16 seasons in the NBA, with the majority of his career spent with the Knicks. He was known for his scoring ability, rebounding, and shot-blocking.

3.      Championships: Cartwright won three NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls in the early 1990s. He was an important part of the Bulls' frontcourt alongside Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen during their championship runs.

4.      Teams: During his NBA career, Cartwright also played for the Seattle SuperSonics and the Golden State Warriors. He was named an NBA All-Star in 1980.

Coaching Career: After retiring as a player, Bill Cartwright transitioned into coaching. He served as an assistant coach for several NBA teams and eventually became a head coach. Some of his coaching stints include being the head coach of the Chicago Bulls, where he previously won championships as a player, and the New Jersey Nets.

Offered is Cartwright’s 9 page rookie NBA contract with the New York Knicks and 4 page addendum. The contract has been signed by Eddie Donovan (D. 2001), the Knicks GM at the time.  He was also a coach with the Knicks from 1961-65.  He later became the team’s GM who drafted Willis Reed and traded for Dave DeBusschere, which led to the Knicks winning their first NBA title in 1970.  Co-Signed by Cartwright, the 3rd overall pick in the draft.  Signed by 2 witnesses and stamped by league commissioner, Laurence O’Brien.

The first 3 pages of his addendum have been initialed by both Cartwright and Donovan.  The fourth page has been signed by Cartwright and Naismith Basketball HOFer, Dave DeBuschere.  Stamped by O’Brien.
