The 1986 Fleer Basketball set was the first major NBA trading card issue since the 1981 Topps Basketball set. This was considered one of the most iconic issues of all time. Like the 1952 Topps baseball set; there was not enough demand at the time for these cares. Many of the cases and boxes ended up being destroyed. Michael Jordan’s rookie card and rookie sticker were featured in this set, but it also featured HOF rookie cards such as Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, Hakeem Olajuwon, Patrick Ewing, Clyde Drexler, Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Chris Mullin, Ralph Sampson, James Worthy, and Dominique Wilkins. The set was also loaded with All-Time G.O.A.T.’s with the likes of Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Larry Bird, Dr. J and so many others.
To kids who grew up in the 80’s and 90’s and missed out on purchasing these cards; this is the Holy Grail. In 2021, a Michael Jordan PSA 10 sold for a staggering $720,000.
With more and more boxes and packs being ripped every year, the survivors are a sure fire investment!
Graded by PSA NM-MT 8. Akeem (Hakeem) Olajuwon’s sticker can be seen through the back of the pack. Note, wax boxes came with 36 packs that held 12 cards, 1 sticker, and 1 piece of gum.
