Albersheim's 2016 May Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/14/2016
You could say that 1938 was a great year for Davey O’Brien when he went on to win the Heisman Trophy, the Maxwell Award, and Walter Camp Award, and was the fourth overall pick of the 1939 NFL draft. O'Brien was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1955. Since 1981, the Davey O'Brien Award is given annually to the best quarterback in college football.
He would go on to play for the Philadelphia Eagles in 1939 and 1940 before retiring from the NFL to become an agent for the FBI.
Offered is a NR MT NFL program with another Heisman Trophy winner and future Supreme Court Justice, Byron “Whizzer” White on the cover. The date November 17, 1940 has been penned in an unknown hand on the cover of this Eagles vs. Detroit Lions game played in Philadelphia.
On page 16 O’Brien has been his signature in black steel tipped pen. The autograph would rate a 10/10. The rest of the program features, stats, photos, etc. This is a KILLER piece for any Heisman or NFL collector!
Letter of Authenticity from Richard Albersheim
