Jackie Robinson Signed AUTO 1953 Interfaith Interracial Thanksgiving Religious Service Program PSA/DNA LOA

Program from the "2nd Annual Inter Faith Inter Racial and International Thanksgiving Service," held at the Fox Theater in Hackensack, New Jersey, on November 24, 1953, signed by Jackie Robinson. The legendary Hall of Famer has flawlessly inscribed the program in blue ink (grading 10") in the upper left corner, "Best Wishes/Jackie Robinson." Jackie Robinson broke organized baseball's long-standing color barrier in 1946 when he joined the Montreal Royals of the International League. The following season he became the first African American to play in the major leagues since Moses Fleetwood Walker in 1884.

Jackie Robinson fully understood the significance of the occasion and he continued to be an active supporter of the civil rights movement for the remainder of his life. Robinson was a featured Speaker that day at this Thanksgiving 1953 servie and was kind enough to oblige one of the other attendees with his autograph at the event.

One of a kind piece that we’ve never seen before and remarkable just in the fact that interracial religious events in the early 1950s were unheard of. Needless to say, this is the first example of this program we have ever seen signed by Robinson, and one that truly reflects his commitment to ending bigotry and racial discrimination during his day. This 8 page (folded down the middle) program measures 6 x 9 inches in size.
