John J. O'Brien (D. 1967) was an American basketball referee and administrator. He was involved in organizing several early professional basketball leagues. In 1925, he founded Metropolitan Basketball League, which featured the original Celtics. From 1928 to 1953 he was an executive with the American Basketball League (essentially the commissioner), serving as president and, later, as chairman of the board. He was enshrined into the Basketball Hall of Fame as a contributor in 1961.

We offer a letter written by a fan that O’Brien signed. The letter is dated 11/2/1961. O’Brien is one of the top 10 toughest Basketball HOF autographs!
