May 17, 1947 Pirates vs Brooklyn Dodgers Program – Jackie Robinson Pittsburgh Debut
Rare program from the Pirates 4-0 Victory over the visiting Brooklyn Dodgers in Pittsburgh. Even though the Dodgers came up with 12 hits, they still ended up with the L (Rube Melton taking the loss). Fritz Ostermueller improved his record to 3-1 with this victory. Pete Reiser managed to get himself kicked out by arguing with the ump. In Jackie Robinson’s Pittsburgh debut during his rookie year (the 25th game of his MLB career), he had two hits going 2 for 4 and was hit by the pitch in the 1st inning (the 4th time he was hit by a pitch in his rookie year). In Hank Greenberg’s first year with the Bucs and last season in the big leagues as a player, he hit his 5th Home Run of the season and going 2 for 3 for the day with 1 walk.
Program is unscored, tight binding, loaded with photos of players and advertisements. Fold through the center (probably this fan 1 of 14,809 in attendance put it in his back pocket. Pencil notation on the cover of the “Pirates 4 Dodgers 0 May 17, 1947”
