Stanley Stutz Modzeleski Rhode Island NY Knicks Baltimore Bullets Signed AUTO GPC D. 1975

Stan Stutz (D. 1975 at age 54) attended the University of Rhode Island where he led the NCAA in scoring three consecutive years from 1940–1942. He was a 2 x 2nd Team All-American. Stutz then played three seasons (1946–1949) in the Basketball Association of America as a member of the New York Knicks and Baltimore Bullets.

Stutz later coached the Washington Tapers of the American Basketball League. Stutz quit playing in 1949, but in 1950 returned to the court as a referee in the NBA, staying until 1959.

Offered is a very uncommon autograph of Stutz on a gpc postmarked February 20, 1942 from Rhode Island (where he played his college basketball).  Born Stanley Modzelewski in Worcester, Stan was so enamored with the automobile by Stutz called the "Bearcat" that he was called Stutz Modzelewski. Later, in order to simplify his name, he decided to take "Stutz" as his new surname and changed it legally.  This was actually autographed before he changed his name legally in the pros.

This gpc was originally mounted into a scrapbook and has some residual paper on the back.  SUPER RARE in this format (not to mention just a hard to come by autograph in general).
