Pretty much one of the most iconic 1950’s baseball cards that are on the top of many baseball card collector’s want lists; is the 1952 Topps #261 Willie Mays rookie card. This is one of the most important cards from perhaps the most important post-war card sets ever produced.
This particular image was produced in the 1950’s off a duplicate negative from the era that it was captured. This is not a modern print. This photo derived from notorious autograph collector, Bill Zekus’ collection and was signed by Mays in the 1970’s. We’ve only seen 2 other images ever offered for sale; none graded as a TYPE 1.
This iconic 8x10 photograph has been encapsulated as a TYPE III image by PSA/DNA.
