Offered is this 1931 football program Grand Rapids Maroons vs Chicago Cardinals  which was a charity football game played at Houseman Field in Grand Rapids, Michigan.   The game ended up in a 7-7 tie in front of 4000 shivering fans on an ice caked field. The cover has been signed by Famed Notre Dame Four Horsemen player, Jim Crowley (D. 1986) in black ink.  Crowley was the Head Linesman for the game.

The inside of the program has been signed by super tough Iowa legend and one of the earliest African Americans to play in the NFL; College Football HOFer – Duke Slater.  Duke Slater played in the NFL for 10 years from 1922-31.  His name has been brought up as a viable selection for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.  His autograph is probably one of the most sought after of non-Pro Football Hall of Famers.  He died in 1966 and only a handful of his autographs have ever entered the collector’s market place. He signed his name, “Duke” Slater Iowa 21.

Walter Kiseling – (D. 1962) had 34-year career as pro player, assistant coach, & head coach. He played for the Duluth Eskimos, Pottsville Maroons, Chicago Cardinals, Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, and the Pittsburgh Pirates (Steelers).  He was named to the NFL 1920’s All-Decade Team, and a member of the 1936 NFL Championship Green Bay Packers.  He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame 4 years after his death and is considered by many collectors as a Top 5 Tough Pro FB HOF autograph to acquire.  He signed his name Walter Kiesling St. Thomas College.

Bill Glassgow – (D. 1959 at the age of 52) played for the University of Iowa and in the Pros for the Porstmouth Spartans and Chicago Cardinals.  He was a first team All-American at Iowa in 1929.

Gene Rose – (D. 1979) played his college ball at Wisconsin and played in the nFL for the Cardinals from 1929-32.

Bill Boyd – (D. 1996) 1930-31 Cardinals

Milan Creighton – (D. 1998) out of Arkansas. Played for the Cardinals from 1931-37 and was the head coach of the team from 1935-38.

Frank McNally – (D. 1993) played for the Cardinals from 1931-34 and made All-Pro in 1931.

The program measures 9.5” x 6.5” and is four pages on heavy cardboard type paper.  Some of the signatures have smudging, as it must have rained that day.  Some incredibly tough autographs.  An opportunity to own a genuine Walt Kiesling and Duke Slater autographs on one piece; not to mention Iowa toughie – Bill Glassgow.
