Albersheim's 2014 Winter Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2014
A lone alley cat looks on forlornly as Brooklyn Dodger star Jackie Robinson makes his last exit from the Ebbets Field clubhouse here January 7th. Jackie, who says he won't play baseball again "for a million dollars", paid a final visit to the ball park where he starred for the last 10 years to pick up his gear. Robinson, the first negro in organized baseball, had retired to become a vice president for a restaurant chain.
This is an original (7.5 x 10 inches) AP wire photo with AP stamp and Sun-Times stamp on verso. First used in January 1957 and again on July 18, 1977 (last time it was used in the paper). This is one of the most famous shots of Jackie.
