Albersheim's 2015 June Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/7/2015
If you ask Bill Russell, he’ll tell you that he’s the greatest basketball player to ever play the game. Arguably, there could be a case made for this boast. For years, Russell refused to sign autographs for fans, teammates, or even handicapped kids. That is until he hooked up with South Florida sports memorabilia dealer Rich Altman who convinced Russell that he could make a lot of money signing his name. Russell relented and entered into an exclusive deal with Altman to sign autographs after a 40 plus year policy of no-signing.
Offered is an official NBA Game ball with a facsimile signature of then commissioner David Stern. It’s signed by Russell with his #6 in silver pen. This ball is accompanied by a COA that’s signed by Bill Russell (signed William F. Russell) and Russell’s handler, Rich Altman. The document measures 10” x 8” size. Most collectors at this point have separated the COAs and the basketballs that Russell originally signed under his autograph deal with Altman. Nice pairing!
Letter of Authenticity from Richard Albersheim.
