Albersheim's 2015 November Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/14/2015
The 1973 season found the Oakland Athletics winning their 3rd consecutive American League West title with a 94-68 record. The A’s would go on to defeat the mighty Baltimore Orioles in the ALCS to win their 2nd straight American League Championship. They would win their second consecutive World Championship in a World Series that would go seven games against the Amazing Mets.
Not since Bill Veeck has there been such an innovative team owner as Charles O. Finley. A self-made man, he brought Joe DiMaggio back to the big leagues as a coach. He opened the door to future stars and HOFers: Reggie Jackson, Sal Bando, Joe Rudi, Bert Campaneris, Catfish Hunter, Rollie Fingers, and Vida Blue. He was also the first modern day owner who would reward players for growing facial hair.
This Jostens 10K gold ring weighs approximately 26.4 grams and measures a size 12.5 – 12.75. This championship ring features a green stone at the center, that’s surrounded by the proclamation “World Champions” with year designations “72” and “73” on each side. One shank has the gold Oakland logo with green highlights, along with engravings of “Oakland” and “Finley” below; the other shank has engravings of “A’s 4 Mets 3” and in a small emblem “A’s 4 Reds 3,” alluding to the team’s back-to-back World Series triumphs in 1972-73. At the bottom of the emblem is “S+S=S.”
Ring features a large brilliant CZ (which in our opinion looks even nicer than many diamonds that Jostens put in these rings during this time period) in the center laid upon the green stone. Inside the band is a vintage Jostens 10K engraved marking. This is a chance to own a very uncommon salesman sample from this early 70’s A’s dynasty!
