If ever there was a career year for a golfer, 1996 would have been that magical year for PGA golfer, Mark Brooks. He won the Bob Hope Classic, Shell Houston Open, and the overall PGA Championship (Wanamaker Trophy). He was picked to be a part of the President’s Cup and we are pleased to offer the actual golf bag that Mark used during the President’s Cup Tournament.
About the tournament - The 2nd Presidents Cup Matches were held in 1996 between September 13 and September 15. They were played at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia, USA. The United States team won the competition by a margin of 16½–15½. The honorary chairmen was former President of the United States George H.W. Bush. Both teams had 12 players plus a non-playing captain. This changed from 1994 when the United States had 11 players plus a playing captain. On the first and second day four-ball was played in the morning and foursomes were played in the afternoon. On the third day only singles were played.
The United States included golfers (besides Brooks) such as Fred Couples, David Duval, Tom Lehman, Justin Leonard, Mark O’Meara, Phil Mickelson, and Kenny Perry.
This high quality bag was made by Mark’s sponsor, Ben Hogan Golf and features very patriotic red, white, and blue embroidery. Signed in black sharpie, “Mark Brooks ’96.”
Fantastic museum quality piece!
