1951 NYC Mafia Mob Crime Boss Albert Anastasia Notorious Hitman Original Press Photo

Albert Anastasia was an Italian-American mobster, hitman and crime boss. One of the founders of the modern American Mafia, and a co-founder and later boss of the Murder, Inc. organization, he eventually rose to the position of boss in what became the modern Gambino crime family. He also controlled New York City's waterfront for most of his criminal career, mainly through the dockworker unions. Anastasia was murdered on October 25, 1957, on the orders of Vito Genovese and Carlo Gambino; Gambino subsequently became boss of the family.

In 1951, the U.S. Senate summoned Anastasia to answer questions about organized crime at the Kefauver Hearings. Anastasia refused to answer any questions.  Offered is a 5 x 7 inch original photo (this would be considered a TYPE 2 photo – a photo printed from the original negative during a period 2 years after it was first taken).  This is the quintessential photo that would usually run in newspapers whenever Anastasia would make the news.  Stamped on back March 21, 1951 and original paper slug from ACME dated 3/19/51 regarding The Kefauver Senate Crime Committee investigating the unsolved murder case in which Albert Anastasia was a suspect in. Originally used in the Chicago Tribune
