Connie Hawkins Receives American Basketball League MVP Award – Pittsburgh Renaissance

The Hawk needs no introduction.  Due to his being banned from playing in the NBA, due to getting caught up with Jack Molinas, Connie Hawkins only professional basketball option in the early 60’s was to play in the fledgling, ABL.  He was their biggest star.

Offered is a UPI wire photo from 3/30/62 receiving the MVP award for the ABL.  He was presented the award by the Mayor of Pittsburgh.  Connie is wearing a gorgeous Rens warmup jacket. UPI stamp on the back and stamped February 23, 1972.  This was produced most likely to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the league’s creation.
