Willie Mays Signed Agent Contract for 1954 Appearance on a Television Show

If ever there was a career year, the 1954 season may have been it for Willie Mays.  After missing the 1953 season, the “Say Hey Kid,” would return to peak form; leading the league with a .345 batting average while slugging 41 home runs en route to his only World Series championship. Mays would win the NL’s MVP award and the Hickok Belt as top professional  athlete.  He would also being selected as an All-Star for the first of 19 consecutive seasons.  The 1954 World Series would perhaps be best remembered for “the Catch,” which may have been Mays’ crowning achievement in baseball on the way to his Hall of Fame Career.

Mays accepted and signed this official contract. Drawn up on July 23, 1954 (just three months before Mays secured his first and only World Series title), with the William Morris Agency .  He would pay the agency 10% of his appearance fee for the television show, “Colgate Summer Comedy Hour”

Gorgeous blue ink signature from early in Mays’ career when you could still read his signature! RARE!!!!
