Hugh Casey was arguably baseball’s first star relief pitchers and his teams included the Cubs, Dodgers, & Yankees. Tragically, he took his own life in 1951 at the age of just 37, after a brief conversation with his estranged wife he told him over the phone that she was leaving him.
