Meyer Lansky was known as the "Mob's Accountant", was an American organized crime figure of Polish birth who, along with his associate Charles "Lucky" Luciano, was instrumental in the development of the National Crime Syndicate in the United States.

Associated with the Jewish mob, Lansky developed a gambling empire that stretched around the world. He was said to own points (percentages) in casinos in Las Vegas, Cuba, The Bahamas, and London. Although a member of the Jewish mob, Lansky undoubtedly had strong influence with the Italian-American Mafia and played a large role in the consolidation of the criminal underworld. The full extent of this role has been the subject of some debate, as Lansky himself denied many of the accusations against him

Fearing prosecution for various offenses, in 1970 Lansky attempted to retire and immigrate to Israel, aiming to use the country’s Law of the Return, which grants citizenship to anyone of Jewish heritage. But after two years, his attempt for permanent residency was rejected due to his criminal record and he was deported to the United States

Offered is this 7” x 10” (approximate size) original 1973 AP press photo of Meyer Lansky in Miami, Florida on February 26, 1973 leaning on a parking meter waiting to cross the street.  His trial on federal contempt of court charges started that day. Great shot of Lansky at the age of 71.  He would be sent to prison a few months later.
